Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler

Buy Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
==================================================================

Compact in size but big in features, Cuisinart's countertop Griddler offers five-in-one functionality as a contact grill, panini press, full grill, full griddle, and half grill/half griddle. The stylish brushed stainless-steel housing looks sleek and modern in the kitchen and features a wide panini-style handle and a hinged floating cover that adjusts to various food thicknesses. • 5-in-1countertop unit works as a contact grill, panini press, full grill, full griddle, and half grill/half griddle
  • Brushed stainless-steel housing; sturdy panini-style handle; floating cover to adjust to thickness of food
  • Removable and reversible nonstick cooking plates drain grease for healthy cooking; integrated drip tray
  • Adjustable temperature controls with indicator lights; gourmet recipes and scraping tool included
  • Plates, drip tray, and scraper are dishwasher-safe; 3-year limited warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Cuisinart upgraded the Griddler, and it's better than ever
I bought a G4 Griddler from Amazon in 2005, and used it a couple of times a week (at least) until it had to be put out to pasture in 2010 due to failure of the non-stick coating on the plates. (The coating started to bubble and peel, and no one wants that in their food...) I loved it. (See my review of the Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler Stainless-Steel 4-in-1 Grill/Griddle and Panini Press) It was still working great, but replacement plates were not available.

I was elated when offered the opportunity to review its smarter younger brother, the GR-4NAM Griddler. I could hardly wait for it to get here and run it through its paces.

At first glance, the GR-4NAM looks virtually identical to the G4. However, closer inspection reveals that it has been totally redesigned, and for the better.

Improvement: The grease catcher used to be a little cup that had to be set under a spout on the side of the bottom plate. If it was positioned incorrectly, (or forgotten...

2. best indoor grill so far
I have tried the Villaware Uni panini grill, the Delonghi open countertop grill and another panini type grill (approx $90), and returned them all (ouch, those return shipping charges hurt). I never considered the Geroge Foreman grills because they always felt cheaply made to me, not to mention many unfavorable reviews).

None of the grills/panini presses that I tried got hot enough to work well for me. They just did not grill as much as steam, bake cook the food, and they all took a longer time to do so than I was willing to wait.

I never was bothered by cleanup, though. I always just wipe the hot plates with wet paper towel, let it then cool a bit, and wash with wet sponge. Works on them all.

So I just gave up and bought some stovetop grill pans and have used them for the past year or so. They do get as hot as you want but you do have to turn the food to cook both sides.

Being a kitchen appliance junkie, I decided to try the Cuisinart...

Great idea, poor implementation
We have had this product for over 1 year. This product has a few of great features:

1. The interchangeable nonstick plates that are dishwasher safe.
2. The unit opens up to a large griddle.
3. The cooking plates are dishwasher safe.

However, the nonstick surface has started peeling off of the plates even though the plates have never been abused, and we have never used metal utensils on them.

Our biggest complaint is the thermostat. The unit will reach the desired temperature, and then turn off. The cooking plates will actually cool off so much that the food will stop cooking. The thermostat will then kick back on and take about 3-5 minutes to get back up to temperature. It is very annoying, and doesn't always produce good results with food.

There also is a large temperature difference between the two plates when the unit is opened as a large griddle. This causes items being cooked to finish at different times...

Cuisinart GR-3 Griddler Jr 3-in-1 Nonstick Countertop Grill

Deals for Cuisinart GR-3 Griddler Jr 3-in-1 Nonstick Countertop Grill
==================================================================

The Griddler Jr. maintains the best of the Griddler family traits and has a more compact build to fit comfortably on any countertop. It can be used three different ways to prepare a variety of favorites-steaks on the open grill, crisp-grilled sandwiches with the panini press, or burgers cooked to perfection, both sides at once, with the contact grill. Make big plans with a small package!
  • 3-in-1 appliance functions as an open grill, contact grill, and panini press
  • Hinged, floating lid automatically adjusts to the thickness of food
  • Adjustable temperature control; cool-touch handle; compact size
  • Removable nonstick grill plates; drip cup and cleaning tool included
  • Measures approximately 14-2/5 by 12-1/5 by 6-1/2 inches; 3-year limited warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Ooooh. Mmmm.
Before deciding to buy the Griddler Jr. I called Cuisinart (and got someone on the line within a few minutes) to ask about the wattage rating of this product, which I could not find listed on Cuisinart's site or in the manual for this product (which is available in PDF format at their site). It's 1200 watts. The GR-4, which I guess is Griddler "Senior," is rated at 1500 watts. The tiny Hamilton Beach indoor grill (with NON-removable grills) that I used before getting the Griddler Jr. is rated at 750 watts.

According to an article titled "Grill Power" in the February, 2006 issue of Prevention Magazine, Steven Raichlen, host of Barbecue University on PBS, says, "The lower the wattage [of indoor electric grills], the less likely your meat will taste like it came from an outdoor barbecue. It'll taste like it was steamed, instead." The author of the article, Amanda Pressner, suggests choosing an indoor electric grill "at least 1000 to 1500 watts. Smaller appliances usually use...

2. Perfect (single sandwich) size, and just about fool-proof
I'd been looking at panini grills for years, but had never found the perfect model. Many of the grills I looked at in stores seemed very cheap and poorly built. One clear exception was the Cuisinart grill, which was very well constructed, but it was very expensive and also very large. When I saw this new Cuisinart Junior, I decided to take the plunge. It has become the hit of our kitchen. Making fancy grilled sandwiches has become a highlight of our weekends. My teenage kids love the sandwiches off the grill, and they don't seem to notice that they're eating healthier than before. The quality of panini sandwiches off this little grill is far superior to the paninis we get at our local restaurants.

Here are the features that make this grill a winner for me:

- The grill plates really are nonstick. I've never had to do more than wipe them clean, even when drippings seem to have burned on. The plates remove super easily, and also snap back in very easily...

Good Looking & You'll Grill Like a Gourmet
The grill has a modern brushed stainless steel finish that will fit in well with any kitchen. It is compact, light in weight, but heats up quickly to the appropriate temperature. Veggies, fish, chicken and steak cook evenly and quickly. It toasts panini's well even with the thickest bread and a multitude of fillings. The plates snap out easily so you can pop them into your sink or dishwasher and the plastic cleaning tool is well designed to let you get into the grooves and remove any grease. The only draw back is if you are grilling a large steak some of the grease may miss the drip cup and drip down the front of the unit, but I guess that's why sponges were invented. All in all a fine product that is useful in any kitchen.

Wolfgang Puck WPCGL050 Tri-Grill Panini Maker with Storage Drawer

Cheapest Wolfgang Puck WPCGL050 Tri-Grill Panini Maker with Storage Drawer
==================================================================

This professional-quality appliance has been designed for years of cooking enjoyment.
  • Grill, griddle, and panini maker with 3 removable nonstick plates
  • Fixed, float, or open-flat cooking positions; locking height mechanism
  • Adjustable heat up to 450 degrees F; 30-minute timer; floating hinge
  • Drip drawer; storage drawer; cleaning scraper included; dishwasher-safe parts
  • Measures approximately 13-3/4 by 13-1/2 by 7 inches; 1-year limited warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. The best for cooking and clean up!
If you have not tried one of these muti-purpose portable cookers (if you have you know the speed and ease of cooking any meal is unbelieveable) look no further than this fine unit. Right out of the box you see the quality and thought that went into this product. This is a replacement for my first (different brand panini grill). Differences are unbeliveable; unlike my previous grill this unit grills to perfection, the grease from cooking goes thru the open bottom grill plates, into a removeable tray. All grids are removeable, which is a huge difference (my old unit did not have removeable grids had to clean by hand). It cooks meat, chicken, panini etc perfectly and nearly grease free.P.S.Don't throw out the direction booklet! It has over 20 Wolfgang Puck recipes in it, to use with this grill! Can't say enough.

2. Not perfect - but it's alright
I was searching for a replacement for my old unit from a different manufacturer that I had loved but is no longer made, and had several requirements:

1. Removable plates
2. An interior drip pan
3. A "floating" top that would allow for even cooking when food is thicker on one end.
4. An adjustable temperature (more than just high/low).
5. A decent sized cooking area.

It is somewhat surprising to me how difficult finding all these on the same unit can be, and this tri-grill does deliver and performs well on each of these items, so for that I'd give it five stars. The reason for me only rating it three is below:

After reading the other reviews here, I was a little nervous about ordering because of the possibility of poor quality. You can imagine my thoughts when I opened the box and out falls a screw! Fortunately, the screw was to hold the lid onto the handle and I was able to reassemble. The other side was very loose too, so...

Good concept, poor execution
We searched until we found what looked like the prefect multi-function panini grill. It's a great concept and obviously someone thought of all the possibilities for cooking that it could do. And the storage for the extra plates is brilliant. However, when we took it out of the box, some screws and bolts fell out. Then we noticed that the anchors holding the heating element were loose and dangling. We couldn't put them in because the back, where the bolts went, was inaccessible. A little black rubber part fell out also, and we figured out that it was one of the rubber feet on the bottom, but the other one was missing.

We thought the metal which it was made of was rather thin and flimsy, and it was apparently carelessly assembled. Also, a lot of the parts rattled, making it sound not very sturdy. We are returning it without trying it and getting a refund. But after reading the 5-star review about how well it cooks, we are considering trying another one, just to see...

Waring Pro WGG500SSQ Electric Indoor Grill and Gri

Cheap Waring Pro WGG500SSQ Electric Indoor Grill and Gri
==================================================================

The Waring Pro Grill and Griddle makes multifunctional an understatement! It can make perfect Panini plus lots more. With four separate cooking options, it handles everything from pancakes to sausages to grilled cheese to steaks to hamburgers to Panini. It helps you prepare more servings of more kinds of food in less time so you can cook for a crowd--no one has to wait. Simply change the cooking plates and adjust the floating hinge to use it as a contact grill, a Panini press, or your choice of...
  • Brushed stainless steel housing
  • 1300 watts of power for quick heat-up and heat retention
  • Heavy-duty cast iron plate
  • Adjustable thermostat with ON and READY indicator lights
  • Non-slip rubber feet

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Move over George...
I never owned an indoor grill made by Ronco or George F so I won't be comparing the Waring to anything else. This review is based upon an inspection of the parts and the cooking of several foods.

Waring makes professional products so they know what quality is. Don't let the word "Pro" fool you into thinking this is a restaurant-quality commercial product -- It isn't but the quality is very good. My initial observations:

* The grill is heavy-duty enough for home kitchen use. The body is metal, the controls have a quality feel, the heating elements are thick and the grilling surfaces seem pretty good.
* It takes a while to heat-up but once it does it cooks at a consistent rate.
* The free-floating top grill doesn't really float so you have to free-it-up manually. Keep in mind that the grill plates are really hot and extend outside of the body so a pot holder is in order.
* There are two sets of grill plates: one set with ridges and one set that...

2. Purchased January 2010
This is the first counter-top indoor grill I have owned. My husband purchased a Geo. Foreman for Christmas but this one seemed to have better ratings and was priced $20 cheaper with Free Shipping so we decided to try. I don't have much to compare to since it's the first one I've owned. Seems fairly easy to use. Grids are easy to take out to clean. One drawback is that since the top lid rests on top of the meat if you are cooking meat that is more than 1/4" thick the grease splatters out around the edges and leaves a mess all over the countertop. The little plastic cups that are provided to catch the grease are cheesy. I don't see myself using this on a regular basis. Using as a griddle it's OK but a little small even for 2 people.

Great grill
I paid $79.99 in 12/09 and have been very pleased so far. The grill heats quickly and when ready provides even heat distribution. The food cooks and looks great. I especially like the burgers that are crusty on the outside and juicy inside. I scrape the plates, while still warm, with the plastic scraper that comes with the grill and when cool put them in the dishwasher and they clean up well. The plates are very easy to take off and put on.

  • Dishwasher-safe removable plates include 2 grill/Panini plates plus 2 griddle plates

  • Measures 15 by 14 by 9-inch; 3-year limited warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. The typical Foreman grill, but with some additional versatility

2. Not worth the price
For the record, I already have a pretty decent panini maker. I was excited to try this one because of the ability to change plates and to open it up flat. This is what I found:

Pros:
1. Removable plates make it incredibly easy to clean. Much easier than mine current panini maker without them. The fact that I was able to stick them in the dishwasher made me so happy after I grilled some salmon.
2. The ability to open the hinge and make pancakes was a real draw.
3. The plates were very easy to change.
4. It is compact and stores easily.
5. Heated up quickly and had the adjustable heat settings that made it easy to cook different things.

Cons:
1. I didn't like not having an on/off switch. Needing to plug it in each time and unplug it when done was a pain in my butt.
2. While the plates were easy to put on/ take off, the top never really lined up with the bottom when closed.
3. The drip tray was nice, but not when you tried to...

Nice grill with good features
The George Foreman 3 in 1 Panini Press, Grill and open Grill with Double Cooking Surfaceis the second grill we've had that has the grill/panini plates/and open grill. The first one was a Cuisinart which was quite a bit heavier - I'm not really sure why. The only other difference was that the plates were heavier, and the grease collection was a bit more cumbersome, making cleaning more difficult. It also had 3 heat controls, as opposed to the one control on The George Foreman 3 in 1 Panini Press, Grill and open Grill with Double Cooking Surface. The first one had a bit larger grilling surface, and was a bit more solid, but this is neither good nor bad - it just is what it is. We've been able to use this grill to make hamburgers, panini's, and pancakes. I'm sure many more things can be made on this, these are just the things we've made so far.

The features I like about this grill are a single grease collection area - whereas other grills sometimes drain grease from the outer...

Breville BGR200XL Variable Temperature Panini Grill

Buy Breville BGR200XL Variable Temperature Panini Grill
==================================================================

Breville XXBGR200XL Smart Grill & Griddle Referbished.

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. a panini and meat grill for the pro chef in you
I got a big-daddy gift certificate from my sweet brother for my wedding gift from Williams Sonoma so I had my choice of any kitchen gadget I didn't currently have. I have owned a panini press in the past and wound up giving it away. It was bulky and just didn't cook like a professional panini press offering perfectly crisped edges and a flawlessly hot inside.

I had heard rave reviews of this press and I could not agree more. Yes, some out there opt for "marketability" over quality. What do I mean? With removable plates you simply are not going to get as quality of a cooking surface. Because you have to cover the hot elements underneath and then put the removable plates on top of that so that no one gets burned. By doing this, you lessen the heating ability and true wattage of the cooking sheets that touch the sandwiches or meat and you simply cannot get a true quality sear when you use it as a grill nor a perfect crisp when you use it as a press. Why should this not result...

2. Bought new--damaged--no refund
I bought this as a new product, as a gift to my wife. Upon opening it recently (my wife's grandmother died on Christmas Eve, so we were delayed in "celebrating" the holiday), we discovered the top was dented in several places. The item was in the original box, but the box had clearly been opened and the packaging removed. When I tried to return the item for a refund, the seller refused to accept the return and provide a refund. For $250, this is more than a small disappointment. Suffice it to say, we are sorely disgusted with this lack of service and seller integrity. I do not know if the item works. It was clearly not "new" and we hoped after seeing it to return the item without using it. Shame on Amazon for tolerating this shoddy practice.

Easy to slide the grills out for cleanup right under the sink facet Best indoor grille I have tried and I do not care for grilling out-of-doors.

2. Love it!!!
I used the grill the day I received it, in perfect condition and very well packed! The grill heats up very fast, and it grilled my food to perfection, including grill marks... Cleanup is a breeze, just wiped with a sponge. I highly recommend this product! Word of caution: Be careful moving the grill right after you turn it off...the outside (sides) gets VERY hot!

I bought another one for my son...he loves it too!

Swissmar KF-77046 Classic 8 Person Raclette with Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle Plate, Red

Cheapest Swissmar KF-77046 Classic 8 Person Raclette with Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle Plate, Red
==================================================================

The original raclette... Unmistakably swissmar! In 1985 swissmar first began importing swiss raclettes into north america. With the tenacious determination to perfect this appliance to ensure it met the standards of our customers, a swissmar brand raclette was created. New and ingenious features such as; non-stick cooking surfaces; dual function grill top combined with crepe top; interchangeable granite stone; non-stick dishes with heat safe handles; temperature controls; and more; swissmar has ...
  • Red enameled and stainless steel base
  • Includes 8 heat resistant spatulas and 8 raclette dishes with non-stick coating
  • Reversible enameled cast iron grill/crepe top
  • Variable heat control; 1200 watts, 120 volts, 60 hz
  • Gift boxed with instructions; 1 year warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Great Quality
Love this grill! Quality made, looks and cooks beautifully. Only negative is we wish the cord were longer as it is placed on our table to share in the cooking. This shorter cord limits where we can put it.

2. Love that Raclette
We wanted a raclette maker after having raclette with friends in France. Our web search turned up several. We were tempted by the ones with granite tops, but opted for the Swissmar (competitive price, looked good on the web) with the iron grill top. Instead of just boiled potatoes, we had our raclette with roasted veggies (potatoes, tiny squash, tiny eggplant, little onions) and it was spectacular. We actually found raclette cheese at a local gourmet market, and used that and morbier. Wonderful meal, and having tried it ourselves we now want to invite friends and do dinner parties with it. Heats quickly, melts the cheese quickly. Only drawback is the inner plates melt faster than the outers - this is a negative only if you have 8 people. If you have only 4, give each an inner and an outer and they can pace their cheese melting and it turns into as asset! We're happy with our selection of the Swisssmar.

Waring Pro CIG100 Professional 1800-Watt Cast-Iron Grill

Buy Waring Pro CIG100 Professional 1800-Watt Cast-Iron Grill
==================================================================

The Waring Pro 1800-Watt Cast Iron Grill is an extra-large countertop grill that lets you cook steaks, burgers and more in the comfort of your kitchen. Its three temperature settings and detachable cast-iron grilling surface provide even heat.
  • Extra-large grill cooks up to 6 burgers at a time; Great for searing steaks
  • Detachable cast-iron grilling surface provides even heat; Three temperature settings: Low, Medium, High
  • Stainless steel splashguard folds for storage
  • Stainless steel drip tray with safety interlock feature
  • Limited One Year Product Warranty

This Contact Grills give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Love the cast iron feature, but the switch failed on two separate grills
One thing I LOVE about this grill is that it has a CAST IRON grate so no non-stick coating to wear off and bubble up. It's a fantastic size and works beautifully. The three stars are mainly because I have now owned TWO of these and both of them were working great till the switch stopped switching it on. I've tried to fix the switch, because when I press the lever manually (with a small stick) it works fine. It just doesn't make contact with the switch anymore in order to trigger it. I've even been able to make it work again by gluing a spacer onto the lever so it is ALWAYS pressed against the switch, and thus always on, but even that stopped working after a while. I don't know if the contact just keeps shifting further and further away from the trigger or what. I just got tired of suddenly having no grill. Since it was such an odd flaw, I bought a second grill hoping that was a fluke, but no...same problem ultimately happened.

2. Outstanding
This is the best indoor grill on the market. I consider myself an expert on these things having used an indoor grill consistently for over 6 years. I had an old t-fal which came to and end after it simply wore out. This 2-3 years ago. Ever since then I have been keeping an eye on the market for a replacement. The critical requirement for the replacement to be the same method as the old t-fal, and that is, open slats/slots on the grill and water drip tray. This is the key to an indoor grill. The majority you see on the market are closed tops and are nothing more than "griddles". No way shape or form is it a grill when you're essentially frying the food in its own oil despite any method they devise to simulate a grill. It must have a proper bbq grill with slots /slots for the height to come up and the juice to drip down.

This product has it all. Super high / hot element 1800 watts. All others are toy like at 1000 to 1200. Cast iron grill which combined with the high element...

Best Electric Grill available
Bought this for it's higher power and cast iron grate. I am pleased with it's ability to grill and mark the food with grill marks better than the electrics I have tried. Tip..don't over fill the water in bottom tray..go for less as the water detracts from heat to grill grate. Tip..When seasoning the cast iron grate don't use regular cooking oil as suggested but instead use lard. It is available at most groceries.. Cooking oil will leave the grate sticky but the lard won't.. Lastly.. I love this quality grill.
