I love this product. We use it all the time as I buy meat in bulk quantities and then vacuum/seal and freeze. We also butcher our own wild game and use it for this purpose.

The sealing does take some practice. I noted that another user commented on this in their review. I find that if I shake the contents to the bottom of the bag and pinch the top of the bag with one hand and pinch the bottom of the bag with the other hand that I can keep the bag from collapsing around the nozzle. This allows me to get all of the air out of the bag and makes for a tight seal. I have taught my kids how to do this so it can be done with a little practice.

I have several friends who have bought them after I bought mine and they love them too. We bought some as gifts and people weren't overly thrilled when they first got them because they didn't think they would use. Then they started using it and got totally hooked. You can save so much money.

2. Works fine for food and non-food.
I have this sealer and I love it. It certainly can be used for packaging steaks. Most Mylar bags are food safe. The clear bags you might use with this are probably no better than the channel bags with most vacuum sealers but they're much cheaper. But Mylar bags, which you can vacuum and seal with this, are cheaper than channel bags and keep oxygen and moisture out of sealed items 500 to 1000+ times longer.

This is a nozzle vacuum. The nozzle inserts into the bag for vacuuming, in between the top and bottom sealing pads. After the vacuum is pulled, the nozzle retracts and the heat seals the bag. The nozzle is what makes this work with bags you can't use with other sealers. Channel bags have those ridges you've seen. The ridges allow the vacuum to get sucked out even when the sealing pads are clamped on the opening. The ridges (or channels) maintain enough airway for pulling the air out. Channel bags are way more expensive to make.

Skeptical at first but very happy with product!
This is a great product for me. I bought it because i'm working on a long term food storage project, and this sealer was recommended by a company that i get mylar bags from. Prior to finding this sealer, i tried and failed with my food saver, and all the commercial sealers that would work on mylar were way out of my budget. So i took a risk and bought this machine and i am very happy with it so far! It takes some getting used to at first, but once i got the hang of how to operate it, it worked great. I haven't tried the regular plastic sealer bags yet, but it works great on mylar, which is specifically what i bought it for! Good luck, and happy prepping!

Great product! I have had a Food-Saver for 10 years. Finally wore out and got an upgrade. Like having the roll for making the bags right within the unit. It's much more intuitive than my old model in detecting liquid in the bag by adjusting the suction and sealing. Am happy with this system.

1. You'll use it everyday
Owned for a couple weeks now. It's worked very well. Does a great job sealing, and vacuum packing works wonders for holding flavor while storing food. A fantastic surprise to this machine is that you can use it to pretty much seal any plastic bags, which i didn't know. I thought it was only for vacuum packing in the foodsaver bags, but you can use the sealer on cereal bags, potato chip bags, and even the plastic bags that bread comes in. Had i known that, i wouldn't have pondered the decision for whether this was really something i would use enough to justify the purchase. I've been using it for something everyday.

2. Will work 18 out of 20 times
I've used the V2240 for 2 months now on a fairly consistent basis. In total I've probably vacuumed sealed at least 500 packages from trail mix, dried fruit, granola... and it is still going strong.

The only two complaints I have:

1.) It will only vacuum seal Foodsaver bags, not ziploc bags. Costco sells them pretty cheap.

2.) The space between the sealer and vacuum channel are too far apart causing the waste of roughly an inch of bag for each vacuum seal.

Overall, I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it.

Xlnt vacuum seal
After years of use and hundreds of vacuum seals my model 1075 would not seal bags properly. Vacuum OK but even a double seal would let air in after a few days. I have owned FoodSavers since mid 1997 and this is my third unit. Mind you, I vacuum seal hundreds and hundreds of packages each year and have gotten my $$ worth out the past two units. Looking over all FoodSaver models, I selected the V2240. I like the fact it resembles the older 1075, simple to use, and doesn't waste excess bags like the new vertical units do.

My only dislike is the "moist" setting. It's about 5-7 seconds shorter than the "dry" setting. Kinda useless as it doesn't quite finish the job. I prefer to freeze the product until the excess moisture has frozen then vacuum seal on dry. Works like a charm as I just sealed a bunch of smoked bratwurst and fresh caught Coho salmon.

1. Foodsaver 3825
I bought this unit, and I am very satisfied with its performance. On the plus side, the unit works automatically and puts a very good seal on the package. It has more control over the vacuum, and the canister hose is now built into the unit. On the con side, the owners manual leaves much to be desired. I would recommend that you briefly read the quick start guide, then go right to the website and watch the videos. I could not get the sealer to work until I watched the video... then it was very easy, and it works great every time.

If your used to the old food saver vacuum units, then this one takes a bit getting used to, because its automatic. The bags feed in the side of the unit, but you have to learn how to feed in the bag! Once it's fed in the machine, then a clamp comes down automatically and does the vacuum or seal (depending on the setting you use), but you have to wait till it's completely done and stopped to remove the bag. I got this unit at [...], includes the marinate dish, 12 - quart size bags and a roll of bag material.

I've wanted a foodsaver for years but (1) didn't know a lot about them beyond the infomercials (2) didn't know anyone who had one (3) wasn't sure that it was a worthy investment. Things have changed! I've had a few people recommend them and it piqued my interest. We were at Costco and walked by and looked at the box and decided to get it on an inpulse (and it was $20 off). We also buy a lot in bulk and for 2 people, it's hard to go through EVERYTHING before it goes bad.

At first glance it doesn't look like anything spectacular. The box/packaging isn't all that appealing.
SETUP: The cardboard insert is VERY CONFUSING - it tells you to throw it out, but the picture on it makes you think you should throw out the plastic insert as well - I'm glad I didn't. That would have been BAD! STRONGLY recommend reading the instructions first so you know what buttons to...

Upgrade? Maybe Not!
I just recently brought the FoodSaver 3825 and my major complaint about the unit is the difficulty in getting the bags to seal. It does work if you enter the bag into the slot just right but it used to be a step that didn't require any thougth or finagaling with the older lift-up units. And then once a bag has been used once, the attempt to reuse it with an open edge that is not as stiff as a new bag is even more difficult. I've had gallon bags that I could only use once because the unit would not recognize the cut edge.

1. Perfect way to keep food fresh, longer.
This was my first FoodSaver I've used. I've had this model for about a year. It's nice to be able to seal bulk food I buy at the wholesale clubs and not worry about eating 12 chicken breasts within 2 weeks.

I'm giving this model 4 stars because it sometimes gets stuck closed and I have to run a knife along the seal to pry it open. I called customer service about this and they said this sometimes happens when using the sealer to seal multiple bags all at once. Overall, not a huge deal, but something I hope they fix in the next version.

I've used the FoodSaver for fresh fruit that I keep in the freezer for winter. I love frozen fruit much better than canned. The prices of bagged frozen fruit in the supermarket is outrageous. This makes it cheep and easy to have frozen fruit.

Check around for prices on bags and containers, because sometimes they go on sale. I stock up whenever I see a place that is having a good sale.

my mother-in-law has had a foodsaver for many years and my husband has always said we should buy one beacause we buy meats in bulk and freezer bags just weren't cutting it anymore. so my search began....reading reviews and checking prices.... then one day in feb 2011,i was flipping channels and i saw a foodsaver on QVC. i was happy i would get a chance to see them use it on air. i watched for a while then looked up the price they were selling it for and i was shocked on how inexpensive it was so i called and ordered it. the total was about $80.00 free shipping and it was in 5 monthly installments at no extra charge. i recieved it via UPS a few days later and started using it the very next day. i love it!!!!! it has saved me so much money already, in just a few months it paid for itself. also it came with a coupon for two boxes of FREE bags.... no cost at all. and they arived about 2 weeks later. to top it all off it came with 4 rolls of different sized bags, two plastic meal...

This comes with a 1 year warranty and worked great. 1 year and two weeks after the purchase the vacuum quit. I called the company and they said "sorry the warranty is only 1 year...not 1 year and two weeks." That is a lot of money and freezer wrap I could have bought for $169 and won't buy another

I bought this after reading reviews from various sites on how well it was liked and not liked.The day after I had it here, I put it to work and I do mean "work"! On the first day I packaged from box to Food Saver bags: 10lbs of chicken leg quarters, 5lbs of Bisquick mix, 1 case of ramon noodles, 3lbs of dehydrated onions, 1lb of beef bullion cubes, 1lb of chicken bullion cubes, OVER 30 boxes of fruit snacks, 2 dozen single serve tea bags, 1lrg bag of marshmallows, 6 bars of soap, 4 pckgs of dehydrated onion soup mix, 6 pckgs of dehydrated chicken soup mix, and several small packages of cereal.....ALL IN ONE DAY!

I found that reading the directions first was helpful. As I noticed in a few reviews on various sites, that several people had obviously not read the directions first. When I packaged the chicken leg quarters I was tired and forgot to put the paper towel at the top of the bag to catch the liquids. The tray in the Food Saver caught it all nicely. The next day though...

2. Many Design Flaws
Okay it looks nice and takes up less counter space - but from day 1 I was disappointed in it compared to every FoodSaver I've ever had before.

1) You have to fit the bag into the slot and wait for it to recognize it is there and to start vacuuming "automatically". The models where you open the unit, place the bag, and press a button don't require are much more usefull. They don't require as much bag to be inside it to work - so this thing wastses about an inch on every bag (which really adds up). With the lift top styles you can use other bags. I always resealed my cereal bags, chip bags, and such after every use - and it was simple. Good luck getting cereal bags to go into the slot on this and trip the sensors. For packaging treats for kids I used to buy the really cheap foldover sandwhich bags and just seal them for a second - not a chance with this style...

2) Creating your bag with this unit is really clumsy compared to the regular units. You have to...

Best purchase ever
I bought this Foodsaver, not just for the sealing of the bags, but also for the sealing up of my canning jars. You can purchase a regular or wide mouth canning jar adapter, and with a single lid, seal up things like chocolate chips, nuts, croutons, brown sugar, and dried fruit. A neighbor of mine showed me (and let me taste) some 3 year old apples she had done this with and they were more perfect than those we dried and saved the normal way just this last fall. She also showed me some chocolate chips from several years back that looked perfect. We're excited about the prospects. The machine itself is a beautiful addition to our countertop. The adapter cord is retractable, and the plug in can be neatly stored underneath. 1. Exceeded My Expectations
I'll admit I was skeptical at first - I wasn't convinced that vacuum-sealing would make any impact in reducing the outrageous quantity of food my family wastes in the deep, dark, forgotten recesses of the freezer. But in just two months of use, it actually has. Granted, much of the savings are attributable to more enthusiastic management of the freezer, but it's working. We are now also purchasing meats, cheeses, poultry, etc. in quantity when they're on sale and also cooking sauces in quantity and sealing in multiple bags. 2. Quiet and easy to use
I received this sealer and it was defective. So I recommend people unpack and check it right away. I called Food Saver and the rep was courteous and helpful. Very pleased that Amazon replaced the item in about a day.

The replacement works very well. It seals quietly and in about 10 seconds. It has sealed well although I am not pre-freezing the items prior to sealing. I am cooking the veggies, cooling them off and sealing while still warm or at room temp. A nice feature is that I can push the buttom for "seal-vacuum" and when it has drawn the air down to the point I want it, I can then push seal and stop it from continuing to pull a vacuum. It can also do this with a minimum of waste of bag length. Seal and vacuum as expected is a little bit noisier but still not as noisy as my previous model, a Rival Vacuum sealer.

I learned from my previous Rival and the defective sealing strip in the one that I had to return that it is essential to keep the sealing...

I have had several food savers over the past few years, but this one has the strongest motor and works the best. It really does extend the life of foods in both the refrigerator and freezer. 1. Something's missing
While the machine works great and does and admirable job sealing it has one big flaw. It states having a connection for using a hose to use sealing jars and similar. However I have been looking for one since buying. I wrote to Deni and they answered that it is not available. I have tried the Foodsavers and Rival but neither one fits. Any suggestions?? Quite honestly should I have known this I probably would have purchased another brand.

Great product, easy to use and instructions easy to read. Do not buy the deni bags. They are a cheap made product and will not seal. I purchased a three roll box and they are just expensive saran wrap. use a heavier ply bag and the sealer works like a charm.

You know, I like the product. It does exactly what it says it does and better than the ones you find at Walmart. Don't even spend your money on those even though you will spend five times your money on this one. I had one of those and I wasted my money because the vacuum leaked after only minutes. Once you use this one, the air will not leak out until you open the bag.

The one thing that you all should know is this is made in China. It won't tell you in the description, and I foolishly fell for the "Germany" word. I thought, wow, seventy some bucks it must really be a nicely made German product. WRONG!!! I love the Germans,don't get me wrong, they make good cars, some of the best in the world. I was stationed there in the 1980's when it was West Germany before the wall came down and I absolutely loved their quality of workmanship. I still have an alarm clock that has seen better days but it still keeps on ticking even after 30 years and it woke me up every single...

2. JUST WHAT I'D BEEN LOOKING FOR!
I love it is an understatement. I bought it because I had a Reynolds battery operated system and it didn't work well AT ALL. I liked the concept but it didn't have enough power - I wanted a cordless model. Well, when I saw this item I KNEW it was exactly what I'd been looking for a long time.

Couldn't be happier - works G-R-E-A-T!!!!!!

In a word.....awesome!
I purchased a Foodsaver when they first came out and it lasted about 5 yrs. The second and third one didn't work straight out of the box and the fourth one lasted only a year when it konked out and it was suppose to be the "high end" model. Seems the longer they make them, the cheaper they get. I was through with Foodsavers. Researched online and decided on the Vacupack Elite. My husband and I raise almost ALL our own food from a very large garden to about 100 chickens yearly and several turkeys. We work hard for our food and vacuum almost everything that goes into the freezer. While I have had the Vacupack for only a month,we have already used it alot and it is working great. One of the main selling points was the warranties, both manufactures and service. A 5 yr service contract is almost unheard of. I have had two contacts with the company, PMG, and the rep was great. This is the perfect vacuum sealer. It's small enough to store away in a cabinet until needed. When I come home each week from grocery shopping, I remove all my meat from the store packaging and vacuum seal it before putting in my freezer. Worst sealer I have ever used
I am a BBQ caterer and use sealers to seal my shoulders. I bought this product and used it for maybe 30 minutes. The seal was bad. It tried to seal in about 15 sec but the seal wouldn't hold. I took my Food Vac out and finished the job. I returned it that day. Mine was not a good product for the money. I bought my Food Vac for $50 on eBay.
